Many things we do to the environment affect frogs. We drain marshes, fill in swamps, pollute creeks, chop down forests and destroy places where frogs live and breed. Some frog colonies need our help to survive.
|
| Check your local area for frogs. Learn to identify different species by their calls. Most frogs call at night after rain. | |
Locate frog habitats and breeding sites in your area. Make councils aware of the sites.
Rehabilitate damaged areas by removing rubbish, especially from the water and planting local native trees if there is a lack of cover.
Remove toads and their eggs. (See the Brisbane City Council brochure, in the Further Information, Links section)
Make your garden frog friendly and build a pond. This will help frogs and may give you the pleasure of watching a frog colony. Encourage your neighbours to do the same.
Some frog species have declined seriously in numbers for unknown reasons. The Australian Frog Trust is conducting research into such declines and needs your support.
Join the Queensland Frog Society and come frogging with us. The society is always happy to welcome new members! |
