Frog!

‘Pobbles’ is a Scarlet-sided Pobblebonk, a ground-dwelling species of frog that lives throughout south-east QLD. Unfortunately, he is often mistaken for a Cane Toad, and many frogs like him have met a cruel end to their lives by people’s well-intentioned (or otherwise), actions.
Most frogs are not green, and many frogs can appear ‘warty’ or have rough skin. These characteristics alone are therefore not good identification features of Cane Toads. You need to be toadally sure!

No, seriously – check out the ‘Be Toadally Sure’ brochure we developed, which features a large cane toad and all the defining characteristics, that when each have been verified, should confirm if you are looking at a frog or Cane Toad. Only then, should you consider how to humanely euthanise it, if you wish to take that course of action. But first, please read on…
Cane toads are actually not a big threat to our native frogs. In fact, they don’t even make our top three threats list:
1. Habitat loss/urban development;
2. Habitat degradation, including altered hydrology and introduced fish and weed species; and
3. Amphibian Chytrid Fungus

At the QLD Frog Society, we strive to encourage and foster an interest in frogs, to provide expert assistance, educate the community and survey local frog populations.
You too can become involved in raising awareness or just help support our aims by becoming a Member! We would not exist without the valued support of our members.
